Part 13: The Warning

How?

How did The Princess take control of our message board, if only for a few seconds?  It didn't make any sense.  Our message board wasn't a video game.  Our message board pulled all its information from the internet.  The Princess was already inhabiting a game at the same time.  All the rules we thought we knew, all the things we thought kept us safe had failed us.  Could she have done this at any time?  Could she do it again?  Were there any real limits to what she was capable of?

We looked through all the data we'd collected.  We tried to find some common thread we'd been missing.  There must have been some way we could have known.  There had to be more answers than what we were seeing.  And there were.

We finally realized the truth.  It was so obvious.  The Princess had been in our message board the whole time.  She was on every page.  She was on every forum list.  She'd been staring at us, watching us for years and we never even saw it.  She was the banner at the top of the forum.  She was every screenshot we'd posted, every video we'd uploaded and every piece of fanart we'd drawn.

Every image of her is her.  Every image of her, when observed, gives her power.  She's not a ghost.  She's not a computer virus.  She's an idea.  "Living fiction."  She lives off our observation and thoughts of her.  When we all watched that stream, banded together and gave her all of our attention all at once, we made her more powerful than she'd ever been before.  We made her strong enough to manifest through the images we'd posted on our message board and speak directly to us.

We took down all the images.  From what we speculate, it's enough to simply never look at them again, but we deleted them all just to be certain.  However, it may already be too late for us.  I've been losing contact with other members of the society.  I can't tell if something's happened to them or if they've simply gone into hiding, but at this point only a fool wouldn't consider the worst-case scenario.

I'm not completely heartless.  I know she's fighting for her survival, now.  For her, being forgotten is death.  She does what she does in the hopes of keeping her memory alive.  To that end, perhaps my telling her story to the world is a small act of mercy.  Maybe the thoughts I've lent her will ease her pain somewhat.  I don't know, but either way that isn't why I wrote all this.

What I've told you could put you in great danger, but it could also save your life.  You're a target now, and in the months and years ahead she may well come for you, but I've also given you all the knowledge you need to keep yourself safe.

Do not try to fight her.

Do not try to talk to her.

Do not try to outsmart or trap her.

Don't investigate.

Don't try to understand.

Don't try to be a hero.

Don't try to be her savior.

It is my sincere hope that I've given you all the answers you want, so you won't make our mistake and try to investigate further.  There is one and only one thing you need to do to be safe:

IF YOU SEE HER, TURN OFF THE GAME!

  1. Worth following for all these years. Excellent work.

Is it a coincidence that an unused red-haired girl in a white dress does exist in Ocarina of Time's code, or was that part of your inspiration?

  2. I wish I got to know more about Dan though. What was she building? What was Dan not telling us?

Even without knowing, it was a great story, and I'm glad I stuck around

    1. She was trying to rebuild her image. She used every texture from the game to try and bring her identity back, but she couldn't remember how it looked.

    2. Personally, I think she was trying to recreate her Final Boss. She was created to be a character in a game. However, her game was left unfinished. From the sounds of it, she was trying to recreate her world. She just wants someone to finish making the game.

Thank you, seriously. I'm kinda gimpy and laid up a lot of times, so I tend to read a lot of stories to keep my brain occupied, and this one (especially considering the SA source thread had you saying it was your first) is one of my favorites. It's both scary and really, really sad, and awesomely done. Thank you :D

From part 3: "And most of the stories were just like that. A lot of them ended with the player’s game freezing or becoming so unplayable the player turned the game off. Very few ended quite as dramatically as mine. However, as I’ll get into later, my story was also unique in a much more important way."

    1. Part 4 also has

“The Princess is the ghost of Mr. Carver’s daughter.” (My Note: I’ll get into who Mr. Carver is a few parts from now.) There is nothing to suggest The Princess is the ghost of anyone, or even a ghost at all.

  10. That was interesting, now perhaps I shall look on Call Of Duty, Skyrim, or even to make the story worsen, Dead Space. Might be fake, but I dont care. As long as im playing a fun as fuck game for hours with weapons being guns, swords, or blasters, to many different abilities, thu'um, kenesis, and ability to switch loadout. If I stumble apon this im gonna ride the lightning, wish me luck, but im not devoting a part of my life for games because games are a pasttime, not another OCD pattern to my life.

  12. I don't know why I waited so long after begining reading this blog to begin posting... but I'm still out here as well. I Dont't know if you remember me from the Society, but I'm interested in talking to you. It's not over, far from it my friend. She's still appearing IN MY GAMES. Current games at that. I can't just let it go. Please contact me through this account, I feel alone in this and although you've explained that numbers dont exactly provide strength I feel as if I could find some comfort in someone who has been through the same things I have. I hadnt posted my Story on The Princess Society, and I feel as if now is a good time to share it. It's on my blog if you want to look it over to see if anything in particular sticks out to you.

Hoping to hear from you soon,

  13. So the Princess isn't really bound to the electronic medium, but pretty much anything that refers to her likeness, like a drawing. This kind of psychic Frankenstein could be like those haunted paintings and such.

I was playing Saints Row 4 and I was killing things with the Dubstep Gun, and suddenly everything started to glitch around and then the people started to do the arms to the side stance and floating towards me. I freaked out and unplugged my Xbox because I knew what was going on.

  20. Where did the newer "Journal" posts go? They were supposed to be excerpts from the woman who took over development of the game Hero and Princess after Carver died.

She had nightmares where she saw the Princess stuck on a table and with the roles reversed, I think that there were 3 parts uploaded on this blog and now they're gone.

    WHERE ARE THEY?!?

  40. I think I've encountered her, but it's hard to say, it might have just been a texture glitch on my part.. I even took a screenshot of when it happened.

I was playing The Sims 2 on a Nintendo DS emulator, the one game where you have to run a hotel. I was playing through it and I can't say I remember how it started, but the game reset itself and the Conceirge got mad at me for Time Traveling, telling me Aliens invaded the town. I went outside the hotel, it was night time, but the night sky looked odd, also the lighting on everything made it look like there was a full moon.. I think there was one, but I was focused on the Aliens.. hell, I think I was stuck being the Ratticator during that sequence. I remembered there was a mission I needed to do at night, I managed to do it successfully, then I come back to town and everything's normal, I change out of the Ratticator's suit and go into the Atrium. I remember the sounds glitching out, my brother heard it and asked me what sound that was, I told him I didn't know, it might've just glitched. The game also started running slowly, which seemed normal to me because it was running on an emulator. I went into the Asian Emporium, to solve a problem with a hotel guest, I go in and I find out he's not there. I check my phone and call him, he says he's in there, but I didn't see him.. I also thought that was normal, having played the game long enough to know it does that.. after that, I head out to leave, only to find the door glitching.. I couldn't leave. Then, the textures went out, bit by bit until there was no textures at all. I freaked out and showed my brother, then took a screenshot. Afterwards, I closed the emulator, not interested in continuing the glitch Sims 2 and deciding that was enough for today.

I never saw the princess, nor did I see anything else after that. As of right now, that was probably last fall, I don't remember.

Also, I had read this story about the princess the summer before it happened, it hadnt occurred to me until some time after that I might've had an encounter with the princess.

    Any thoughts?

    1. I...I really don't know what to say, cos I don't want to acknowledge the possibility she might be real but something "odd" just happened to me right now and I'm a tad (read: a lot) creeped out. I don't even know what to believe anymore. I just opened OoT on the N64oid emulator on my tablet. Blew up the barrier and went to the Lost Woods and then to Kokiri Village. Just for the sake of it, I looked around the village, trying to spot something and I guess I thought something of the sort "if you're here, do something". Nothing happened, I minimised the app and just left the screen on the menu, you know, with the apps and my screensaver appearing on it and returned to read your story and noticed something odd... The screen was zooming in and out, as if someone was "pinching it", you know? It kept going for 10 seconds and then I decided to shut down the tablet only I couldn't click on the option, as if it wasn't reading my "touch". I got seriously creeped out and forced to shut down. Just turned it on again and the first thing it did was to show that green charging bar (despite not being connected) so I clicked the power button again and connected and disconnected the charger and everything seems to be normal. So, this sure is pure coincidence, right? I think I'll stick to watching people play for now on.

This is a fun, chilling story. Great riff on creepypasta. It stuck with me enough that, when playing Heroes of the Storm earlier today I noticed an opponent was using the name 'Princess' and felt a chill.

    1. It's not completely outrageous. It is quite possible for The Princess to exist. She doesn't, but she could if someone wanted her to. See my comment below.

      Delete
    2. She doesn't exist, you are right but another theory could be that the devs could've intently put the princess in the game to either scare or to kill people.

      Delete
    3. Plus if the author put those tips in there, he or she could be trying to avoid murder. The author, Rocketflex, is sending us a warning and one of those warnings is you can't be friends with her. Don't talk to her, DON'T DO ANYTHING EXCEPT SHUTTING OFF THE CONSOLE. You could be saving your life if you were encountering with her. There is 1 in 1,000,000,000 chance of actually seeing her in one of your games.

      Delete
    4. if there really was 1/1,000,000,000 chance then less than one human would've seen her

      Delete
  45. Just realized something. While this is just a creepypasta, it would be very possible for The Princess to exist. If there were a "Princess Countersociety" who knew how to hack into people's gaming consoles from a short distance, they could spawn The Princess at any time. Also, if they were monitoring the player who encountered her, The Princess' kill ability could be the work of any member of the Countersociety (i.e. player triggers kill ability, person breaks into their home and kills player). This is further supported by the fact that the theory of "something physical appears in the room with the player," while very technically possible due to quantum mechanics, is EXTREMELY unlikely to occur (as in, on the order of a chance of 1 in a googol- not to mention that something intelligent and capable of killing has to appear, AND it has to appear specifically in the room with the player who triggered The Princess' kill ability, bringing the odds down to about 1 in a googolplex- and it happened 4 times, further reducing the odds to 1 in [10^10^100]^4). Therefore, something else must have happened.

That said, while I maintain that this is just a creepypasta, I have seen some similar effects to a Princess encounter while playing Super Mario 64 on my Wii U Virtual Console. I don't know what I did that could've triggered this, but I saw some load times between areas increasing and a few Goombas had missing textures. (I had been cloning a LOT of coins at the time, so based on my knowledge of watching 30000 times more pannenkoek2012 videos than I probably need to, it could have been file corruption, but I couldn't help but jokingly say "Oh look, The Princess must be here" when it happened. That, and it didn't quite match up with pannenkoek's experiences with file corruption, so... yeah. Not saying I actually ever saw The Princess. I didn't. She doesn't exist. I'm just saying that I did experience some similar effects.)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ok, so basically I do gaming as well, but I have never seen her. She could all be well fictional but there has been quite sufficient evidence in the creepypasta that makes it stand out well. There is a slim chance to see her, but then again, DON'T EVEN TRY TO OVERTHINK THAT. Even thinking about her could raise your chances of either encountering her or even having your game just crash randomly, apart from all the AIs and APCs just glitching out. SHE IS A THREAT AND MUST NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY!!!

I think the same thing happened to me but in a game, after I was once playing a game called slendytubbies 3 and then I had no internet and I started playing alone and they were going to do 3 am and then in a while the music was distorted then all the ncp did not do more than the pose T and then I decided to restart the game and when it was going well after 5 or 7 minutes began to do it again the music distorted the ncp and the enemies made the pose T the game was going Slow and from far away from the map I saw an explosion that decided to close the game and play something else from there and nothing like it happened

Got back to his house and the entire house was(white) nothing inside garage was cleaned out. Chop in the back yard was distorted... Now thru playing doom and seeing her mid play through(I was like 10 at the time) I didnt think anything of it. I played through after seeing her glitches and all with imp and even the soldiers pulling the t pose some of the demons were just staying still not doing anything. I don't remember what she did or said in game but I remember trying to use the bfg9000 on her to kill everything in the room and after all said and done she was left standing freaked me out abit but didnt stop me from playing since i was near the end of the game anyway.
